Jean Selvy Wyss - Art Jewelry - Black Hills South Dakota

Artist's Statement

Growing up and living my whole life in the Midwest, I marvel at the strength it took, especially women who homesteaded. And today, looking around me at the women in my life, I again marvel at their strength and spirit. SD and especially the Black Hills seem to encourage strong character and independence, a wish I have for all women.

My subject matter is usually about women. Portraying us with a sense of humor, savvy, tenaciousness and all the other phases we journey through. This piece is constructed with a variety of collected fabrics and antique trims and buttons, hand beaded with glass beads and African trading beads, and found objects.
